Local Government Retirees in Ogun State have appealed to the State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun to pay their monthly pension as at when due.

According to a ‘Save Our Soul’ letter written by a concerned Local Government Pensioner, Ekundayo Olukayode Olukay, a former Director of Information and Retired Head of Local Government Administration (HOLGA), it is on record that during the tenure of a former administration in the state, pensioners were being paid on or before the 25th of every month before the workers received their salaries.

Ekundayo lamented that the situation was not the same with the immediate past administration which neglected the payment of monthly pension as at when due, while noting that the story remains the same and persistently too.

He pointed to the fact that as at Friday, 23rd April, 2021, some Local Government Retirees are yet to receive their pension for the month of March.

Great Achiever Magazine reports that while Ekundayo thanked Governor Abiodun for taking the bull by the horn in kick-starting the payment of Gratuities owed the Local Government and State Retirees from the backlog of arrears accumulated by the immediate past administration since 2011, he passionately appeal to Governor Abiodun to increase the funds allocation in order to quickly clear the backlog and help put smiles on the faces of the Retirees.

“We are frail, ageing, ailing and dying. We are senior citizens, we are getting older and older each day. We need to buy drugs and eat well to sustain and maintain our health challenges.

“We are not unmindful of the general economic situation. Prince Dapo Abiodun, please save our souls.

God bless you as you look kindly and graciously to our plight”, Ekundayo concluded.
