Ebumawe of Ago-Iwoye begins 20th coronation anniversary celebration

The Ebumawe of Ago-Iwoye, HRH Oba Abdul-Razaq Adesina Adenugba, has commenced the celebration of his 20 years on the throne.

Great Achiever Magazine reports that Oba Adenugba ascended the throne on 8th May, 2004.

The Chairman of the Ebumawe 20th Coronation Anniversary Planning Committee, Oluomo (Dr) Femi Bakre, in a press conference at the Ebumawe’s Palace on Thursday, 2nd May, 2024, said various activities have been lined up to commemorate the week-long event.

He said the celebration of Oba Adenugba’s 20 years on the throne was put together to thank God for His divine direction and mercy on the royal father in the task of ruling Ago-Iwoye, and also to appreciate the people of the town, friends and well-wishers for their immeasurable support.

Dr Bakre disclosed that Oba Adenugba’s remarkable achievements on the throne are heartwarming, as his reign has brought about peaceful co-existence among the people of the university town, which is allowing development to take place.

He said: “There is cordial relationship between the town and the two universities (Olabisi Onabanjo University and Aletheia University) that are located in the town.

“Businesses are being established in the town on regular basis because of peaceful environment and ease of doing business which the town guaranteed”.

According to Dr Bakre, some of the businesses that are thriving in Ago-Iwoye include; Quarry and Mining, Private Schools, Filling Stations, Five Star Hotels, Event & Recreational Centres, etc. 

He said there is also establishment of government agencies in the town such as; Prison Services Farms, Federal Road Safety Corps Divisional Office, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps Divisional Office, while noting that generally there is improvement in commerce and commercial activities which has led to socio-economic development of the town.

In commemoration of the 20th Coronation Anniversary, Oba Adesina Adenugba has conferred Chieftaincy Titles on some notable personalities in recognition and appreciation of their unflinching support and immense contributions to the development of the town. They are; Otunba Alex Onabanjo (Asiwaju of Ago-Iwoye), Sir Col (Dr) Demola Onalaja (Balogun of Ago-Iwoye), Lady Mrs Roselyn Onalaja (Yeye Balogun of Ago-Iwoye), Chief (Mrs) Funke Bakre (Iyalode of Ago-Iwoye), Alhaji Liadi Odusanya Yusuf (Akogun of Ago-Iwoye), Mrs Bola Olusanya (Yeye Akogun of Ago-Iwoye)

Some of the activities lined up for the anniversary include; Interdenominational service, Quiz and Sports competition among secondary school students, Public Lecture, hosting of Ago-Iwoye community to anniversary party, presentation of gifts to selected public schools.

The grand finale of the event will take place on Wednesday, 8th May, 2024, at WosAm Arena, Ago-Iwoye, where a reception will be held for very important personalities, captains of industries, senior government officials and traditional rulers.

Meanwhile, Oba Abdul-Razaq Adenugba, accompanied by some prominent indigenes of Ago-Iwoye, after the press conference, paid homage to Awujale of Ijebuland, HRM Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, for his royal blessings on his anniversary celebration.

Oba Adetona congratulated Ebumawe for attaining 20 years on the throne.

He commended Ebumawe on his several accomplishments in the last twenty years, saying that he was proud of the turn around in Ago-Iwoye under Ebumawe’s rulership.

Awujale disclosed that Oba Adenugba is one of the royal fathers in Ijebuland that he was very proud of, advising him to continue to protect the interest of his people at all times.

Oba Adetona prayed for more successes and peaceful reign for Oba Abdul-Razaq Adesina Adenugba.
