A cross section of indigenes and residents of Ago-Iwoye in Ijebu North Local Government Area of Ogun State have expressed their displeasure over incessant power outage in the town.

They blamed Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) for inefficiency and inability to live up to expectations of regular power supply to the town.

Some of the residents of Ago-Iwoye who spoke to Great Achiever Magazine lamented the untold hardships they are facing in terms of their personal comfort and the negative effects which the irregular power supply is having on their businesses.

Business activities, according to them, have almost grounded to a halt as business owners could no longer afford to run on generator as an alternative source of power because of the increase in price of petrol and diesel.

Great Achiever Magazine also learnt that aside from the constant power outage, the community is faced with the problem of transformer vandalism which is very rampant in many areas of the town.

Reports have it that not less than 5 transformers in different areas had been vandalized within two weeks with all the components of the transformers carted away.

All efforts of the community to apprehend the vandals have proved abortive, while accusing fingers are being pointed at IBEDC staff as allegedly being complicit.

It was also learnt that several complaints made to the IBEDC office in Ago-Iwoye about lack of constant electricity supply were either not promptly attended to or outrightly ignored.

This has therefore left many people in the community to be highly agitated and therefore called for massive protest to the IBEDC office to restore constant electricity supply.

There is also a popular consensus on a WhatsApp platform known as *Ago-Iwoye Electricity* , where many participants on the platform called for drastic action to be taken against IBEDC in order to force the company to do the needful, as they recalled that all their pleas to IBEDC in the past as regards regular power supply yielded no positive results.

However, in response to the agitations of members on the platform, the Manager of IBEDC, Ijebu-Ode, Abdul-Ahmed Yusuf, who is also a participant on the platform, said: “Ago-Iwoye is now on Band C with an average supply of 12hrs/day”.

He informed that the tariff band will increase and solicited for prompt payment of the bills when delivered, advising consumers to embrace pre-paid meters which he said are available.

The manager also reiterated the need for everybody’s cooperation to succeed.
