Ago-Iwoye community celebrates 2022 Ojude Oba festival in grand style

It was carnival-like atmosphere on Monday, 11th July, 2022, as sons and daughters of Ago-Iwoye and their friends gathered at the palace of Ebumawe of Ago-Iwoye, Oba Abdul-Razaq Adesina Adenugba, to celebrate the 2022 Ojude Oba festival.

Great Achiever Magazine reports that Ojude Oba festival is usually celebrated on the 3rd day of Eid-el-Kabir when the Muslims and their friends, irrespective of religious inclination, pay homage to the town’s Royal Father.

The 2022 Ojude Oba festival in Ago-Iwoye had in attendance very important dignitaries and Regberegbes (age grade associations) in Ago-Iwoye, such as, Egbe Bobakeye under the leadership of Giwa Odekomaya, Egbe Gbobaniyi under the leadership of Oluomo Femi Bakre, Egbe Jagunmolu under the leadership of Giwa Kola Onakoya (World K), Egbe Arobayo under the leadership of Giwa Murphy Adesegun, Egbe Arobayo Prestige under the leadership of Giwa Wale Taiwo, Egbe Mayegun under the leadership of Giwa Ramon Odunsi.

The Baloguns added colour to the event with display of horse ride as they paid homage to the Royal Father, Oba Abdul-Razaq Adesina Adenugba.

The Regberegbes, while adorning colourful attires, in a competition-like outlook, danced and sang as they paid homage to Oba Adenugba and presented him with gifts, while the monarch in return prayed for them.

The Chairperson of the occasion, Olori Abiodun Soyewo, in her speech, congratulated Oba Abdul-Razaq Adesina Adenugba and all the indigenes of Ago-Iwoye, for witnessing the 2022 Ojude Oba festival in good health, saying that the annual event has no doubt served as a veritable platform to promote unity, peace and progress of the town.

Egbe Bobakeye

Olori Soyewo, who is the Iya Egbe of Egbe Mayegun, Ago-Iwoye, thanked the organisers of the Ojude Oba festival for the honour of being found worthy and invited as the Chairperson of the occasion, assuring that she and her husband, Prince (Dr) Feyisayo Soyewo, Olori Omooba and Asiwaju Onigbagbo of Ago-Iwoye, will continue to support the annual event and the development of Ago-Iwoye.

She thereafter announced monetary donation which attracted loud ovation from the audience. 

In his royal remarks, Oba Adesina Adenugba congratulated all sons and daughters of Ago-Iwoye for being alive to celebrate the 2022 Ojude Oba festival, which the last two editions (2020 and 2021) were suspended due to COVID-19 pandemic.

Egbe Arobayo Prestige

The Royal Father commended all the Regberegbes that participated in the 2022 Ojude Oba festival for their unflinching support and financial contributions to the success of the event.

Oba Adenugba appealed to all sons and daughters of Ago-Iwoye to continue to give priority attention to the development of the town, noting that with their support, Ago-Iwoye will get to the desired level.

The monarch showered encomiums on the Chairman of Ojude Oba Planning Committee, Alhaji Sola Bello and other members of the committee for their sacrifice and untiring efforts in putting together very befitting Ojude Oba carnivals in the past ten years, adding that the people of Ago-Iwoye are very proud of them.

Alhaji Sola Bello, while speaking with Great Achiever Magazine, commended all members of the Planning Committee for working tirelessly day and night to ensure a hitch free and befitting Ojude Oba celebration.

He also thanked all the Regberegbes and other prominent indigenes of Ago-Iwoye who have always donated generously to the annual event.

Alhaji Bello assured that the money donated by the invited guests will be spent on development of the town.
