One of the four members suspended for three months on Friday by the Benue State House of Assembly, Berger Alfred Emberga representing Makurdi North State Constituency has been elected as new Speaker.
His emergence followed an emergency sitting convened on Sunday and presided over by Deputy Speaker, Lami Danladi following the resignation of Hycinth Aondona Dajoh as Speaker after he alleged a plot to impeach him last week.
Embattled Dajoh in a handwritten resignation letter addressed to the clerk and shared on his social media handle, said his decision “is in good faith and in the best interest of the State.” He titled the post, “let there be peace”.
The Assembly has adjourned its sitting to Tuesday.
