The Lagos State Commissioner for Wealth Creation and Employment, Mrs. Yetunde Arobieke, has urged job seekers to be sensitive and take advantage of job opportunities around them

Speaking at the Year 2022 Mindset Orientation Programme organised by the Ministry with the theme: “Youths in Nation Building through Financial Inclusion”, the Commissioner said the State Government conceived the idea when it became abundantly clear that many unemployed youths are fixated on getting white-collar jobs hence the need to change their mindset from being job seekers to wealth creators

Arobieke said, “Unfortunately, these prestigious white-collar jobs are no longer available, yet they fail to think of alternative ways to swim out of the ocean of unemployment and become self-employed with a sense of fulfilment”.

The Commissioner further advised the participants that their goals to succeed rest in their abilities to identify their passions and energies which can only be achieved provided they do a thorough reassessment of themselves by identifying their passions.

She listed the rationale behind the annual Mindset Orientation programme by the Ministry, informing that the programme is meant to advocate and encourage youths to consider Technical and Vocational Skills as an alternative to white-collar jobs, enhance the Leadership and Employability Skills of youths, channel the passions and energies of unemployed youths in Lagos State towards self-reliant skills outside white collar jobs.

Arobieke also applauded Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu for his continuous interest in assisting unemployed youths in Lagos State.

On her part, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Ms. Olayinka Fashola, advised job seekers at the programme to leverage more on technology to enhance their job opportunities, saying that technology puts them at an advantage over anyone that is not technologically savvy.

She said the fact that times are changing makes it imperative for job seekers to also move with time, as the old method of seeking job opportunities cannot fit into the demands of today’s job market.

The CEO of West Africa Vocational Education (WAVE), Mrs Molade Adeniyi, in her presentation at the event, advised the participants to be cautious when engaging on social media as the content of their posts can either increase or decrease their chances of getting job opportunities.
