COVID-19: Ijebu-Ode LG trains traders on production of hand sanitizers amid sensitisation

Ijebu-Ode Council Boss, Engr Gbenga Olugbile

The authorities in Ijebu Ode Local Government, have sustained their  sensitisation campaigns on the dreaded Corona Virus Disease, as they met with the Traders and various Associations, in the local government area.

In a press release signed by the Director of Information of the Local Government, Mr. Tope Oyekan, the meeting, which was held at the Council Secretariat, Itoro, Ijebu Ode, recently, had in attendance, leaders of all the markets in Ijebu Ode Local Government Area, led by the Iyalaje of Ijebuland, Alhaja Korede Alatise.

Speaking at the meeting/training programme, the Chairman,  Transition Committee, Ijebu Ode Local Government, Engr. Gbenga Olugbile, counselled the traders on the need to drastically cut down on the number of people coming into the markets, strict observance of the social distancing rule, and the use of hand sanitizers and hand washing materials, as well as other personal protective equipment.

While stressing the importance of markets to the daily lives of humans, the council boss allayed the fear of the traders on the likelihood of total closure of their markets.

He however emphasized on the strict adherence to all the laid-down rules, charging them to take necessary preventive measures against the spread of coronavirus menace.

Engr. Olugbile commended the Head of Local Government Administration/Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Adeolu Olufowobi, and the council’s medical team for their ingenuity.

Earlier in their remarks, the Supervisor for Health, who also doubled as the Chairman of the Corona Virus Committee in the local government area, Mrs. Abiodun Amisu, and the Council’s Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Adeolu Olufowobi spoke about the origin, symptoms and prevention of the deadly pandemic.

Dr. Olufowobi hinted of the Council’s plans to distribute Thermometres to all the markets, as part of efforts to contain the spread of the disease.

Highpoint of the interaction was the training of the Traders on the local production of hand sanitizers by the Council’s Health Educator, Mrs. Serifat Bakare, and the use of Thermometres, by the Apex Nurse, Mrs. Peters.

Responding on behalf of the market leaders, the Iyaloja of Oke Aje Market, Chief (Mrs.) Wuraola Kuforiji, assured the Chairman of their cooperation and support in the sensitisation campaigns, stating that hand sanitizers and hand washing materials had already been deployed in the markets, while entry and exit points would  be reduced, in order to control movements.

She further sought the council’s assistance on the posting of Environmental Health Personnel to the markets, in order to complement the efforts of core medical officials in the local government area.
