Hon. Adesegun Abdel-Majid Adekoya
Hon. Adesegun Abdel-Majid Adekoya, member representing Ijebu
North/Ijebu East/Ogun Waterside Federal Constituency in the House of
Representatives, has emerged as the Deputy Minority Whip.
His emergence came on the heels of unanimous endorsement by
the South West Minority Caucus of the 9th House of Representatives
comprising; Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Social Democratic Party (SDP), African
Democratic Congress (ADC), Action Democratic Party (ADP) and Allied Peoples
Movement (APM).
The South West Minority Caucus had earlier positioned Hon.
Adekoya as its nominee for any minority leadership position zoned to the South
West.
The Caucus based its endorsement of Hon. Adekoya on his
character, integrity and experience to discharge his duty in line with the
House rules, the constitution and in the interest of minority caucus.
In the same vein, the choice of Hon. Adekoya as the Deputy
Minority Whip was endorsed by 111 out of 147 members of PDP on the floor of the
House.
Hon. Adesegun Abdel-Majid Adekoya is currently a second term Member
of the House of Representatives, where he is representing Ijebu North, Ijebu
East, Ogun Waterside Federal Constituency.
Hon. Adekoya, a holder of Post Graduate Diploma in Financial
Management from Federal University of Technology, Owerri, worked at Nigerian
Bank for Commerce and Industry from 1981 to 1988, and Eko International Bank,
Lagos State, between 1988 and 1995. After an unblemished career in the banking
industry, he stormed the political scene like a giant.
He was elected Councillor for Ward F2, Somolu Local
Government Area, Lagos State, in 1996. He was also appointed as the Vice
Chairman/Supervisory Councillor for Medical, Health, Agriculture and Natural
Resources, Somolu Local Government Area, Lagos State, between April and
December, 1996.
From March, 1997 to July, 1998, he blazed the trail when he
became the first Executive Chairman of Kosofe Local Government Area, Lagos
State. His political career further got a boost when he was appointed as the
Personal Assistant to the Honourable Minister of State for Finance from 1999 to
2003.
Hon. Adekoya is noted for his compassion for the downtrodden
masses; hence, despite his being far away from his ancestral root of Ago-Iwoye
in Ogun State, he still finds time to return home to attend to the needs of his
people.
It is in his bid to further
identify with his people and strengthen the bond of unity that exists between
him and his root that made him to come back to his home state, Ogun, to
replicate the landmark achievements he recorded during his sojourn in the
political terrain of Lagos State.
Due to his hard work and political dexterity, he was
appointed Full Commissioner 1 in the Ogun State Local Government Service
Commission from 2003 to 2007. His brilliant performance in office won the heart
of Governor Gbenga Daniel who rewarded him with higher appointment with more
responsibilities.
Between 2007 and 2008, he was appointed the Honourable
Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, where he performed
excellently well to the admiration of the populace, and also used his office to
bring smiles to the faces of the masses. Not done yet, Governor Gbenga Daniel
again appointed Aremo Adekoya as the Honourable Commissioner for Works from
2008 to 2010, and left his indelible marks. During his tenure, he supervised
and facilitated great infrastructural development in all the nooks and crannies
of Ogun State.
However, the turning point in his political career was his
election in 2015 as a Member, House of Representatives. He has been giving
quality representation on the floor of the House to the satisfaction of his
constituents.
Upon his swearing-in, Hon. Adekoya wasted no time in coming
up with bills and motions on the floor of the House that would enhance the
quality of lives of the people in his constituency.
Apart from his
legislative duties and oversight functions, he has also used his membership of
the House to facilitate to his constituency, several projects that are of
immense benefits to the socio-economic development of his constituency and well
being of his people.
