Ogun State
governor-elect, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has promised not to betray the trust which
the people of Ogun State have in his ability to perform as the governor of the
state.
Governor-elect, Prince Dapo Abiodun at the Inauguration Lecture
Prince
Abiodun made the promise in his address on Thursday, at the Inauguration
Lecture that was held at June 12 Cultural Centre, Abeokuta, as part of
activities lined up to commemorate his inauguration as the governor of Ogun
State on May 29.
The
governor-elect thanked the people who served in the economic team put together
by him, for collating the basic needs of the people which include public
health care, rural & township roads, infrastructural development among
others, which his administration will focus on.
He therefore
called on stakeholders to submit paper on how government can impact the lives
of the people positively.
Prince
Abiodun, while acknowledging the various challenges faced by the people,
promised to submit himself to the people and invest in capital development, as
he will continue to remain humble because his humility has taken him this far.
In his
opening remark, the chairman of the occasion and co-founder of Guaranty Trust
Bank (GTB), Mr. Fola Adeola, commended Prince Dapo Abiodun for his courage,
capacity and humility.
Guests at the Inauguration Lecture
Mr. Adeola,
whose remark was full of philosophical thoughts, admonished the governor-elect
to ensure good governance and not go the way of his predecessors who usually
abandoned recommendations of economic teams put together after winning
elections.
Prof. Pat
Utomi, who delivered the Inauguration Lecture, titled; “Good Governance and Public
Administration”, advised Prince Dapo Abiodun to invest in education, health
care and be creative in finding solutions to problems.
He submitted
that the common good of the people should be constant, while government should
be accountable to the people.
Utomi
encouraged the governor-elect to tackle headlong, insecurity and unemployment by
giving the youths opportunities.
The Inauguration Lecture was well attended by captains of industry, past governors,
traditional rulers and party chieftains.
