The Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Abeokuta, has recorded two positive cases and one death from the novel coronavirus.
The three patients were all adult males, and one of them died before the result of his sample came out.
The deceased, a 58 year old was a known patient with history of hypertension and diabetes.
He was admitted into the Centre last Thursday and being managed for ischaemic stroke.
Great Achiever Magazine reports that he died on Friday following clinical deterioration, while his sample returned positive on Sunday. His corpse has been deposited in the Morgue.
The second patient is a 65 year old man who lives in Obada Oko, near, Abeokuta.
He was admitted last Tuesday and being managed for pulmonary tuberculosis. His sample also returned positive on Sunday.
The third patient is a 48 year old known hypertensive patient who resides in Ifo. He was being managed for chronic kidney disease, while his sample also returned positive on Sunday.
According to a release by Segun Orisajo, the Centre’s Spokesperson, all the medical and health personnel who managed the 3 cases took all necessary precautionary and personal safety measures.
Orisajo disclosed that arrangements are in progress for the evacuation of the two patients to the Ogun State Isolation Centre.
In his reaction, the Medical Director, Prof. Adewale Musa- Olomu commended the team that managed the latest cases for their vigilance and professionalism.
“Health institution is always the hope of the sick, the reason why we will continue to do our best for our patients.
“At the same time we are ensuring the safety of our personnel. The reason why against all odds, we ensured the adequate provision of Personal Protective Equipment for our staff whenever the need arises”, Olomu said.
The Medical Director reiterated his earlier advice to all staff and users of the Centre.
He said there was nothing to be afraid or panic about, as the hospital is safe both for the patients and staff.
