The Labour Party in Ogun State has demanded the immediate cancellation of the local government election held on Saturday, 16th November, 2024, amid what it described as monumental irregularities that characterized the entire voting process.
Great Achiever Magazine reports that the Chairman of the party in Ogun State, Engr Lookman Jagun, made the call while speaking with journalists in Abeokuta on the aftermath of the election which he referred to as a total charade.
Engr Jagun accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of collaborating with Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC) to disenfranchise several voters in order to rig the election in favour of APC, vowing that Labour Party will reject the results of the election and take legal action without hesitation.
He accused OGSIEC of late arrival and in some cases total absence of its personnel and voting materials in many polling units leading to late commencement of voting process many hours behind schedule.
Engr Jagun also condemned in strong terms the ordeal of Labour Party supporters who were allegedly maltreated, assaulted and driven away by thugs where they turned out in large numbers to vote.
He said the party will ensure that it challenges the outcome of the election in court, while he called on the people of Ogun State to be steadfast in their resolve to demand for justice and good governance.
